Our Story
About two months ago, I was driving to McDonald's with my mom. We were paused at a stoplight when an elder on the side of the road toppled over. He was fine when we helped him up and another bystander took him to his destination. That man needed a walker. His had fallen over when he tripped. Now, what if we hadn't been there. Would anyone have noticed him, or rather stopped to see if he's okay? If this man had a Scoot N' Beep they would.
When we went to the East Cascade Assisted Living Center we found a dual purpose for our walker. Some of the seniors living there had memory loss. The manager told us that many of the residents in this ward had trouble forgetting their walkers. Walkers play a necessary role in their lives. They will turn away momentarily to grab something or talk to a friend, forget they need or have a walker, and walk off. This can lead to many injuries disabling them even more. With our walker they will hear the beeping sound and remember that they need a walker or at least turn around to see what the noise is. In the next paragraph is an explanation of how the Scoot N' Beep works.
How It Works
The Scoot N' Beep is a walker add-on that contains a heat sensor. When his or her hands are on the walker it detects heat and refrains from beeping. If he or she falls or walks away no heat is detected and the beeping goes off.
